In its ongoing successful venture to have Rugby League played in all corners of Lebanon; the Lebanese Rugby League Federation has set a very high standard. In fact 1550m above the sea level was their latest stop. The village of Fnaydik, known as the al kamoua, in Lebanon’s far north, had its first taste of Rugby League and the Federation has set a new twist in the saying “faster than light “ for the playing ground, the region has now got Rugby League however, government power grid has yet to be received.
President Mr. Khaled Ali Taleb of the Municipality, the seeds of Rugby League in the area shall be very well nurtured by the municipality, which is going to ensure all the schools in the neighboring area will inter grade Rugby League in its sports active, as it is aware of its attributes and ethics the sport will provide for their youth in life.
The municipality’s sport director Mr. Omar Houssin Anisha, recognizes the critical role of sport and physical play in children’s lives and sees Rugby League as the perfect answer to his community’s youth problems. That sport is not just an end in itself, but also an effective tool to help improve the lives of children, families and communities.
With the most commanding panoramic view setting of a tree felled mountain in the background and the sound of sheep grazing in the distance, Mr. Remond Safi the federation chief operating officer overseeing newly appointed Faysal Jaber first day as the Director of Development assisted by LRLF coaches Mr. Hatem Hanna (Akkar regional officer) and Mr. Nader Mgheit (Tripoli regional officer), humbly set out on introducing Rugby League to its latest members of the ever growing Rugby League family. On a luscious green grassed area that would easily hold 10 full size Rugby League Fields, it was evident to all that 44 young boys had found a new sport and it wasn’t long before cheers were heard when a tackle was executed or laughter when a try was scored. Eagerly looking on from the side lines were Mr. Mohammad Khaled Taleb and Mr. Mohammad Abd Karim Zakaria, who were fascinated by the new sport and amazed with the effect the kids were putting into this game.
Remond Safi “we are very proud that Municipalities and Scouts organizations want to incorporate our core values of the sport into their communities and life, we will go beyond extremes to ensure that all recipients interested in establishing community programs exceed their expectations of the LRLF”
At the start of the day all were asking, what is this Rugby League? Yet by day’s end all were asking when is our next Rugby League training and when do we play tournaments in our village?
