LAU Immortals set the tone from the opening whistle, letting USJ Saints know this would not be an easy game. Saints, missing key players from their seventeen, committed a glut of unforced errors in their half. They lacked discipline which the Immortals exploited. In the 8th minute Saints fullback Christian Nadir ran needlessly out of bounds allowing the Immortals? back line to put Bahige Saidar in at the corner. That passage was then repeated on 26 minutes, with Jacob Hilal repeating Nadir?s error, with Saidar once more the beneficiary. Ahmed Hammoud?s conversion made it 10-0. It only took the Immortals nine minutes to hit again, when a dropped ball from Saints captain Marwan Karam saw Allen Khoury gather the loose pill and dazzle six defenders on his way to the posts. Disastrously for USJ, three minutes later LAU all but wrapped up the points when Robin Hachache, the international prop converted to stand off for the day, took a quick tap and set off on an 80 metre gallop to the line. Hammoud?s kick made 22-0 at half time. The Saints mounted a brief rally, scoring two tries in the corner to make it 22-10 before playmaker Faysal Jaber was forced from the field with a recurrence of his hamstring injury, ending any chance of an unlikely comeback. The all at sorts Hilal, who had missed Hachache on the latter?s long range try, then saw yellow after a high shot against Allen Khoury. LAU extended their lead from the resulting penalty, with Bahige registering his hat-trick on 68 minutes. Gavin Haddad side stepped Hanna Hajjar to score LAU?s final try. |
